ZB is a good flowing, readily dispersible, high w hiteness powder, it is slightly soluble in water,but soluble in acid solution.
ZB is mainly used as fire retardant in plastics and rubber, and can be dispersed into wood or wood plastics composites, coating systems as a corrosion inhibitor and fungi cide. A lso used as fertilizer or ceramic frit. I t is mainly used in the products that need good distribution, such as high grade Wire and cable, fiber, anti corrosion in coating etc applications.
In rigid PVC , ZB can be used solely to get excellent fire retardant performance.
In flexible PVC, PP, PE, Epoxy, rubber, nylon, engineering plastics, polyester , leather etc applications, ZB is one good synergistic fire retardant with Antimony Oxide, Al(OH) 3 , Mg(OH) 3 , or Bromine fire retardants to improve performance and reduce smoke , it has excellent functions as smoke suppressant, char promotion and adjust the balance of flame retardant properties versus mechanical, electrical and other properties.
Normal dose in polymer as fire retardant is 1-10phr.
ZB can be used as a corrosion inhibitor in both organic solvent-based and water-borne coatings. ZB can have the coatings effectively be more economical, higher performance without Chromium, Lead, or Barium-based pigments. ZB can be also used effectively to replace Zinc Chromate in many formulations by equal weight.
ZB has good synergism to enhance performance when it is combined with normal corrosion inhibitive pigments, such as Zinc Phosphate, Barium Metaborate.
The crystal water in ZB is not reactive form and dehydrates at up to 300 ℃ , so it can be used in some high temperature baking systems. Normal formulation range is 0.03-0.3g/ml.
WOOD AND WOOD PLASTICS COMPOSITES
ZB can be wood and wood composites preservative to protect from wood destroying organisms in above-ground applications. ZB is added prior to or during the blending process, it will achieve a thorough and uniform distribution throughout the composite material. ZB will control the growth of white (e.g. Trametes Versicolor) and brown ( e.g.Gloeophyllum Trabeum) rot decay fungi, it also helps protect composite materials from damage caused by wood destroying insects.
The ability of wood and wood-plastic composite to resist wood destroying organisms depends on wood species, resin type, resin and wax content, production method, exposure hazard and wood preservatives. ZB dose must not exceed 8 %( w /w). When ZB dose exceed 1.5 %( w /w) in wood composite, it may be necessary to use additional adhesive to enhance strength.
Because high content of Boron element, ZB is also used as fertilizer to improve the growth of some special trees, such aseucalyptus, heave brasiliensis.
ZB can replace Zinc Oxide and Boric Acid to make composite frit without water. Composite ZB frit has high efficiency to reduce the usage quantity and can tremendously reduce the sinter temperature. At 980-1000 ℃ ,it can sinter to kinds of low-temp glazes. M oreover, ZB frit is easy to sinter to glass phase to improve ceramic strength and the slurry performance.
Basing on ZB’s property as fungicide, it will protect the ceramic surface from kinds of fungi, bacteria .
